About

Hello there!

This blog is a small passion project dedicated to the documentation and review of "weird literature". Weird literature is defined as any literature which falls outside of the traditional narrative tropes and genre of literature - typically a blend of horror, fantasy, and science fiction. For the purposes of this blog, this definition will extend to movies, games, websites, and other forms of media with the aim of providing a collection of recommendations for weird literature which may be huddled away or difficult to find any relevant recommendations for.

Think of this blog as a library; it is in equal parts offering brief summaries of literature you may be considering to read or have read, and allowing you to peruse recommendations that you would not have easily found otherwise.

Some examples of weird literature mentioned in this blog will include cosmic horror, gothic romance, ekphrastic poetry, and relatively obscure works of fiction and media. A decent portion of weird literature drifts towards the macabre and obfuscated demur, although this is not the rule of thumb; not all books that will be covered are to be shrouded in nihilism and bleak spirals of horror. Few recommendations will exclusively fall into the traditional weird lit genre, and may include recommendations that are simply books that are fantastical or peculiar at heart (or just weird). The same litany applies to digital games, websites, and movies; the reviews are not bound to a single constraining genre, although some will definitely appear more frequently than others.

I will also likely be posting other stories here, albeit not entirely confined to weird literature, for the purpose of documentation, providing surprising recommendations, conversation, analysis of tropes, and as a buffer for uncompleted deadlines.

Please note going through this blog that everyone has a favorite story - I have one, and you likely do as well. Keep in mind, however, that we likely do not share the same favorite story;  what I review, and prefer, are not always going to be in line with what you may prefer in terms of genre, author, and plot. And that's perfectly fine! Many stories are well-written, but subject to the readers personal palette. That is true for you and me both. I love horror, you may loathe it. I hate driving at night, but I am forced to anyways. But regardless everyone has a favorite story and personal tastes, and that is worth considering when reading my reviews and other peoples reviews as well. Ultimately it is up to you to discern what you would like to read; I ask that you don't let my review be the end-all-be-all for how you enjoy a story, and to determine if it is good. I will try to keep my blog posts spoiler free, or at least mark them as (SPOILERS AHEAD) for relevant sections, as to keep the surprise when you eventually read these stories.

What Now?

Well, I suppose you should click one of the reviews; Books, Movies, and Other (Video Games, Websites, and Board Games/TTRPGs), or Generic Postings.
